Compare the2026 Lexus GXVS 2026 Infiniti QX80

The GX has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The QX80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the GX. But it costs extra on the QX80.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the GX Overland’s standard Downhill Assist Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX80 doesn’t offer Downhill Assist Control.

The Lexus GX offers an optional Panoramic View Monitor and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Infiniti QX80 doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the GX and QX80 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the GX has Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX80’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the GX and the QX80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

There are over 23 percent more Lexus dealers than there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the GX’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the GX’s reliability 35 points higher than the QX80.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are better in initial quality than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 76 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 28th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 68 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 13th.

As tested in Motor Trend the Lexus GX is faster than the Infiniti QX80:

On the EPA test cycle the GX 550 gets better fuel mileage than the QX80 AWD (15 city/21 hwy vs. 16 city/19 hwy).

The GX has a standard locking fuel door. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the QX80. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus GX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the QX80.

The GX stops shorter than the QX80:

The GX has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX80; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The GX Overtrail has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The QX80 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For better maneuverability, the GX’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the QX80’s (39.4 feet vs. 41.6 feet).

The Lexus GX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 500 pounds less than the Infiniti QX80.

The GX is 1 foot, 2.1 inches shorter than the QX80, making the GX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the GX 550 Overtrail+ is quieter than the QX80 Autograph (75 vs. 77 dB).

The GX’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The QX80’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The GX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the QX80’s (9063 vs. 8500 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Infiniti QX80 is only 8500 pounds. The GX offers up to a 9096 lbs. towing capacity.

The GX has a higher maximum payload capacity than the QX80 (1545 vs. 1455 lbs.).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Infiniti. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 19% lower rating, Infiniti is ranked 7th.

The GX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The QX80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

If the windows are left open on the GX the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the QX80 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The GX offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The QX80 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the GX offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The QX80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GX to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The QX80 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its October 2024 issue and they ranked the Lexus GX 550 Luxury+ higher than the Infiniti QX80 Autograph.
