The Lexus LS has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. The LS’ 3.4 turbo V6 produces 116 more horsepower (416 vs. 300) and 131 lbs.-ft. more torque (442 vs. 311) than the G80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The LS’ 3.4 turbo V6 produces 41 more horsepower (416 vs. 375) and 51 lbs.-ft. more torque (442 vs. 391) than the G80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Lexus LS is faster than the G80 2.5T 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder:

On the EPA test cycle the LS 500 AWD gets better fuel mileage than the G80 3.5T 3.5 turbo V6 (17 city/27 hwy vs. 15 city/24 hwy).

The LS has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the G80 3.5T’s standard fuel tank (21.7 vs. 19.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LS, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the G80.

For better stopping power the LS’ standard brake rotors are larger than those on the G80:

The LS’ standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G80 2.5T are solid, not vented.

The LS’ tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G80 2.5T’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LS has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the G80 2.5T.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The G80 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the LS’ wheelbase is 4.5 inches longer than on the G80 (123 inches vs. 118.5 inches).

The LS’ standard Smart Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the G80 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LS has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The G80 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LS has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The LS also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Lexus LS has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the G80 Sport Prestige/3.5T offers wireless charging.
