For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LX have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The GMC Yukon doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The Lexus LX has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Yukon doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The LX has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Yukon doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the LX. But it costs extra on the Yukon.

Both the LX and the Yukon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The LX comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Yukon’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LX 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than GMC covers the Yukon. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Yukon ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The LX’s 6 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Yukon runs out after 100,000 miles.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the LX have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Yukon.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the LX has a 776-amp battery. The Yukon only offers a standard 730-amp battery.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LX’s reliability 34 points higher than the Yukon.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are better in initial quality than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus above average in initial quality. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus second in overall reliability. GMC is ranked 20th.

The LX 600’s standard 3.4 turbo V6 produces 54 more horsepower (409 vs. 355) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 383) than the Yukon’s standard 5.3 V8. The LX 600’s 3.4 turbo V6 produces 19 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 460) than the Yukon’s optional 6.2 V8. The LX 700h’s standard 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid produces 37 more horsepower (457 vs. 420) and 123 lbs.-ft. more torque (583 vs. 460) than the Yukon’s optional 6.2 V8.

Regenerative brakes improve the LX 700h’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Yukon doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The LX has a standard locking fuel door. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Yukon. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The LX F Sport Handling has front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the LX F Sport Handling flat and controlled during cornering. The Yukon’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The LX has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Yukon doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The LX 600 F Sport Handling handles at .75 G’s, while the Yukon Denali 4x4 pulls only .73 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the LX’s turning circle is .1 feet tighter than the Yukon’s (39.4 feet vs. 39.5 feet). The LX’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the Yukon Denali Ultimate w/24” wheels’ (39.4 feet vs. 40.8 feet).

For greater off-road capability the LX Premium has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Yukon Denali Ultimate (7.9 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the LX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The LX is 9.6 inches shorter than the Yukon, making the LX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the LX’s middle and third row seats recline. The Yukon’s third row seats don’t recline.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the LX easier. The LX’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 31.6 inches, while the Yukon’s liftover is 37 inches. The LX 600 Ultra Luxury’s liftover is only 31 inches.

The LX has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Yukon doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

The LX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Yukon’s (8000 vs. 7500 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than GMC. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 27% lower rating, GMC is ranked 15th.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Yukon, the LX has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The LX’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Yukon’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the LX the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Yukon can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LX has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Yukon doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LX has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Yukon doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the LX to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Yukon doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The LX 700h’s Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Yukon’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
